MORE CHANCES TO VISIT THE BEVERLEY GUILDHALL The Beverley Guildhall will again be open for the Heritage Open Days this year, with a new exhibition to mark the event. This year’s open days are Thursday, 6 to Saturday, 8 September, for which the Guildhall will be open from 10am-4pm. On Friday, 7 there will also be tours led by the curator, Fiona Jenkinson, at 11am, 12noon and 1pm, for which booking will be required on the day. The new exhibition, which opens on September 6, entitled “Beverley Stories”, is a mixed bag of historical stories from around the town. Fiona Jenkinson said: “There are many interesting stories about Beverley that are too small to be covered in their own exhibition, so gathering them together into one display seemed to be the best way to tell them. The choices of the stories have been made by the volunteers who do the research and the sort of topics covered include the Beverley Gas Company, the Milner family, the East Riding Sanitary Laundry, the Mechanics Institute and many others. We hope that people enjoy this type of exhibition, and if so we may re-visit the format at some time in the future with a different set of stories”. The Guildhall will also be open from 10am-4pm on Saturday, 15 September as part of the Walkers are Welcome weekend. More information on the Guildhall is available from Fiona Jenkinson (curator) on (01482) 392783 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
KAISER CHIEFS HEAD TO THE SPA BRIDLINGTON The Kaiser Chiefs have announced they are to play at The Spa Bridlington on Saturday, 16 February 2013. The five piece indie rock band from Leeds re-established themselves as one of the UK’s most popular groups after performing at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The group's debut album, ‘Employment’, was released in 2005 and enjoyed international success with over three million copies sold and was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize. Kaiser Chiefs' second album, ‘Yours Truly, Angry Mob’ yielded ‘Ruby’, a number one single in the UK. They released their third album, ‘Off with Their Heads’, in 2008 and after a three-year break released ‘The Future Is Medieval’ in June 2011. Earlier this year during an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, David spoke to band member Nick Hodgson about buying the Kaiser Chiefs’ drum set and after a brief discussion between the pair an undisclosed price was agreed. Andrew Aldis, general manager of The Spa Bridlington, said: “This is the third major act we have announced in a week, to perform at The Spa Bridlington, and follows the announcements we have made about Lenny Henry and Jack White. It is a testimony to the superb venue we have and cements our position as the number one premier destination on the east coast for concerts.” Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Wednesday, 29 August and will be available from The Spa box office (01262) 678258 or online at www.TheSpaBridlington.com Tickets are priced at £25 plus booking fee.
